Digital divide in Alexandra

Digital divide is the lack of access to data and information through digital devices. According to the
Oxford dictionary (2018) digital divide is the gap between those who have access to computers and
the internet, and those who do not.
In South African townships like Alexanda schools are not as modern as schools in
Sandton. Generally speaking, networks are faster is urban areas rather than in townships. Because of
more money, urban areas have faster network as they have built-in fibres. Low-end and aging
devices don’t have access to the same services as modern high-end devices.
Placing of telephone towers at schools to increase the speed of network can be a very great help to
less privileged schools. The government should provide those schools with devices like tablets and
laptops for school work. (Johnson, 2015)
